Description
Past and future worlds collide in a meandering fairytale about the most coveted, fabled object of all: the screensaver. With narration based loosely on mythologized, imperialist stories about the Philippines' Pearl of Lao Tzu, 'Ocean Screensaver' is an investigation of narratives, truths, and reclamation among repurposed waters.

Director Biography - Gia Abucejo is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher working primarily across film & video, installation, writing, and animation.

She has made works that have exhibited nationally & internationally in galleries, festivals, and performance spaces. Her first video work, Shield Ambiance, was awarded ""Best Imaginative Transformation: Exceptional Storytelling in Experimental Video"" at the 2023 Feminist Border Arts Film Festival.  

Last summer, Gia completed Mattress Factory's Summer School: State of the Sky cohort program, where she interacted with contemporary archival practices and solar darkroom techniques. ​​  

She is currently working in archives in New York City and was recently selected for an Art & Engagement Fellowship at Art on the Block NYC. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Film & Media Studies and History of Art & Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh."
